Why Soundproof Doors Are Essential For Workshops With Office Space
Any building development that caters for mixed use – either business and residential, or different business functions and processes – will need to consider effective noise reduction and isolation partitions to protect the sound integrity of each room or space. If your workplace incorporates both workshop areas and office space, then the two functions are not always comfortable within the same space – it is difficult to conduct a meeting or make/receive phone calls if there is ‘industrial’ noise constantly interrupting in the background! Here are some aspects to consider with regards to minimising noise within these environments:
Minimise Noise Impact
An important consideration is the definition of ‘soundproofing’ – in most cases within a workplace environment it will be very difficult to completely ‘soundproof’ adjoining spaces. Other than a geographical removal of the different work functions to opposite ends of a building which, of course, is not always either feasible nor affordable, then the aim should be to minimise the ‘noise bleed’ from one space to another, rather than completely nullify it. So, managing expectations of noise reduction is the key – if the two adjoining spaces are a meeting room and a general office then ‘soundproofing’ won’t cause too much of an issue if the noise from the office is a photocopier, printer, or other telephone conversation – if the adjoining space is used as an industrial workshop, then the definition and expectation of ‘soundproofing’ is obviously very different!
Sound Transmission Class
The amount of noise blocked by soundproof doors or partitions is rated by STC (Sound Transmission Class) – and the best way to improve noise reduction transmitted between two areas or spaces is to upgrade those features. Soundproof doors are manufactured in different grades based on the amount of noise they will minimise. Sound is measured in decibels and sound proof doors can be bought as low noise reduction at 35 decibels, or Medium to High noise reduction from 45 to 65 decibels.
Soundproof Doors
Noise reducing acoustic doors and frames can be installed in any development – they can be manufactured in different styles and finishes so they are complementary to the environment in which they sit. In many workplaces the offices will need to have glazed fire doors to allow light and visual access for the room, and soundproof doors will be manufactured with specially treated glass to accommodate this requirement.
Soundproof Fire Doors
Another consideration when choosing sound proof doors is the opportunity to implement another important safety and work-environment improvement for your staff – that of fire safety! Soundproof glazed fire doors can provide protection against flame, heat, and smoke in the event of a workplace fire outbreak by containing these harmful elements in the space where the fire has initially ignited, for limited periods – an FD30 acoustic fire door will provide a minimum of 30 minutes containment, whilst an FD60 acoustic fire door offers the same protection for a minimum of 60 minutes, an FD90 door for 90 minutes and so on.
