What is a pre-hung door

Whenever you undertake a building construction, or renovation, project, one of your major considerations will be doors for your building – not just for aesthetic quality but also practicality.

The practicality aspect does not just consist though, of simple entrance and exit functions – there are many safety and security issues to be considered. Noise reduction, insulation and, of course, fire safety all require doors that will fit precisely, be easily maintained and durable and, wherever possible be both time and cost effective to install.

Pre-hung door assembly units offer the best solution to cater for all those aspects – here is some simple information as to what pre-hung door assemblies are, and why you should consider them as vital components in your next construction project:

Pre-Hung Door assemblies

A pre-hung door assembly set is a complete door unit that has been fully pre-constructed as a working-model, ‘ready-to-install’ feature upon delivery to the site. All aspects and components of the door set including frames, door leaves and often the architraves, are supplied as a completed unit – this ‘single-entity’ construction can be installed on site immediately as they are even equipped with the necessary locks, hinges and latches already in situation.

Benefits and features

These pre-assembled fire-door sets can be tailor-made for a whole range of building projects and situations. All pre-hung fire-doors are constructed to the quality and safety levels specified to meet the mandatory compliance regulations required by law.

One of the biggest advantages of pre-hung fire doors is the big reduction in potential damage to the doors – as these sets come fully constructed and ready to install, they can be fitted as single units AFTER the rest of the construction work around them has been completed. These preconstructed sets also reduce the need for any adjustments once fitted as all the required clearance gaps and tolerances are pre-defined and set – also a factor in managing any potential differential shrinkage due to moisture content.

It is also worth noting that opting for these pre-hung door sets will reduce the all-important labour time and costs – the pre-hung fire doors are installed as single units therefore requiring less preparation time than constructing the frames separately and trying to get the doors to fit!

Application

Whatever kind of building you are constructing – be it commercial or residential, new build or renovation – then choosing to fit pre-hung door assemblies is going to be easier than constructing frames on site and fitting doors into the gaps afterwards.

If your construction is a new-build then the finished units will comfortably, easily and quickly slot into the newly-constructed rooms and walls – even in a building conversion project, it is likely that the quality of existing fittings may have damaged by movement over time, or constructed with older, inferior materials, so using modern pre-hung door assemblies will be an important upgrade in your construction project.0

It is always advisable to source an accredited supplier or manufacturer of fire door assemblies.
