How to keep your business premises safe and secure

When it comes to the security of your building, prevention really is better than cure. You need a deterrent which tells any unwanted visitor that they’re not welcome, and that you’ve implemented a raft of measures which will keep them out.

It probably helps to start by trying to put yourself in the shoes of a potential intruder. Consider whether there is enough visible security around the perimeter of your property. While you may not choose to install security guards to patrol your car park, visible CCTV cameras, burglar alarms and a secure fence around your land tells potential burglars that they’ve got a lot of work to do to get near your building, and will inevitably put them off.

Walk round your building and identify any weak points. Involve staff and family members in this job, because a fresh pair of eyes may identify points you’ve overlooked. Read your local newspaper, and see if there are any patterns in recent crimes. Are windows being broken? Are doors being forced? Pay particular attention to these locations in your premises.

Now inspect your access points, both doors and windows. Shutters and bars over windows will stop glass being smashed and windows being used as an access point. Meanwhile, consider replacing your doors with a reinforced security door. Security doors have come a long way from their humble origins, and we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the protection which steel doors can offer.

In the worst case scenario, if an intruder gains access to your property you’ll want to keep them inconvenienced for as long as possible, and a PAS (Product Assessment Specification) 24 door combines the aesthetics you want for your office with the high levels of security you need. Heavy duty door leaf, sturdy ironmongery and police approval combine to make your interior doors as secure as your exterior. Choose from a wood veneer, laminate or pre-primed finish for painting. Because PAS 24 is a national standard, you can be sure that your door will have been independently tested and assessed to ensure it makes the grade.
