Enfield Speciality Doors chosen for Nuclear Medicine unit at Addenbrookes

Enfield Speciality Doors has designed and made bespoke doors and frames for the Nuclear Medicine department at the world-famous Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Addenbrooke’s is a renowned teaching and research hospital, and was recently rated 80th in the Newsweek’s annual ranking of the 250th best hospitals in the world[i] – and no.3 in the UK. It is also a regional centre of excellence for specialist services such as organ transplantation, neurosciences, paediatrics and genetics.

To provide staff and patients at the Nuclear Medicine facilities with adequate protection, the doors were designed with a FD60 rating, ensuring they would keep fire, heat and smoke at bay for up to an hour while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

In total 55 door leaves and 41 frames were specified for the refurbishment of the specialist department, which uses radioactive substances to diagnose or treat a variety of medical conditions. Doors were provided for treatment rooms, reception, corridors and lift areas.

The 2,048mm high doors were laminated with hard wearing Formica laminate in Crystal White with oak lippings, complementing the rest of the refurbishment of Level 3 of the building. Some doors also required vision panels for patient safety and monitoring. To ensure the doors keep looking new for longer, most were also fitted with face and edge protection.
